Kenneth Wells, owner/operator
In high school I had 3 years with 6 semesters of education in construction trades in both Masonry and Carpentry.  1978 Graduate of Petersburg High School, 156 out of 630 in our senior class with a GPA of 3.4 out of a possible 4.
Once out of school I spent just under 4 years in building custom cabinets for a local family owned cabinet company and learned all aspects of that business and I enjoyed every aspect except for the dust.  I then spent 18 months working for Colonial Heights School system handling maintenance during the evening shift handling everything from electrical to painting, plumbing to roof repairs.  I couldn’t get ahead in life making minimum wage so it was time to move on.  I then spent almost 18 years in the residential, commercial and industrial glass replacement industry. I worked for a family owned business called Virginia Auto Glass in Petersburg for 16 years and because of financial advancement moved on.  I spent 2 years at Carraway Glass Co. in Hopewell and realized that glass work is not where I needed to be.
In the spring of 2001, I started Southside Handyman Services LLC with $500.00 and two old Ford pickup trucks and lots of tears and initiative.  I have with the help of my wife Florence and her belief in me (and her knowledge in the accounting industry), my abilities and our son who has the drive and determination to want to succeed and have this as his business one day, we are very successful.  I have said all along to numerous customers that “I will never be a millionaire but God put me into this business to look after his people and that is exactly what I am going to do.”  There are so many people in the world today that feel as though they have a truck and a saw and that makes them a contractor and they take on projects that they know nothing about.  These so called “contractors” take on a job and do not complete the job or do sub quality work and then disappear and cannot be found when there is a problem or a concern.  We are NOT one of these type contractors.
It is our intent that all jobs are done to the highest standards and that the labor provided is well educated in their work.  We will not take on any project that we do not know exactly what we are doing.  We look forward to providing only the highest quality materials and labor for your project as we continue our company with a new name.  Getting away from the “handyman” stigma is the only reason for changing our name and I see that the business has a bright future as long as we keep our beliefs and core values of doing the job whether we make money or not.  The customer will be satisfied!
Florence Wells:  Account Receivable/Payable

I have worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia for over 30 years handling all facets of Accounting.  When my husband Kenny started Southside Handyman in 2001 I became the Office Manager, handling all of the Accounting functions of the business.  While handling two jobs keeps me busy, I enjoy it.  Being able to work with my family is one of the best blessings I could ask for.  Our goal is to treat everyone as if they are family.

Brian Wells
I have been in the construction and repair business for most of my life. As a child I grew up in a home that was built in the 1920’s and as a family we remodeled the inside of that home one room at a time.  When my father opened the company in 2000 I knew that God was working in a way that my father and I could work together doing something that we both enjoyed.  I attended Richard Bland Collage for two years as well as working part-time.  After my second year in collage the company had begun to grow very rapidly and I felt a pull on my heart that God wanted me to help out with the company.  Over the past 11 years I have learned a lot about what God has in store for me in life both in my profession and personal life.
On October 1, 2005 I married the woman that God had planned for me, Crystal. Three years after being married we were blessed with our son Garrick.  Garrick just turned three in Oct. of 2011 and is a true blessing from God for all of us in our family.
I have been learning this trade from my father all of my life and have even learned from other contractors that we work with along the road.  Most of the services that we provide I am trained to handle.  I am also a certified lead base renovator, and I do hold the certification for this company.  If you have any questions or would like to contact me about any of the services that we can provide for you please feel free to do so.

Thank you for visiting our web site and may God bless you and your family.
